Born and raised in Dallas, Texas he has dedicated 20+ years to studying and perfecting his crafts as a professional performance artist. He began his journey at the age of 4 studying classical voice and piano. Because of his talents at such a tender age an article was written about him on the frontpage of the Dallas Morning Newspaper when he was 8. At the age of 9 he discovered his love and natural abilities for dance and choreography. He then attended the Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy studying ballet, modern, jazz, choreography and classical voice. He received the Sammy Davis Jr. award and the Stevie Ray Vaughn award.
Mr. Lonnie later attended the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts Magnet studying dance and classical voice. During his four years there he worked one on one with Gregory Hines, Vanessa Williams, Ann Reinking, Seth Riggs, Donald McKayle, Louis Montero, Reginald Yates, Frank Katoola plus many more well respected artists. His choreography and his ability to grasp and perform west African dance was recognized by the
National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. He became one of two choreographers chosen in the U.S. to become a Presidential Scholar in the Arts. He performed in the prestigious John F. Kennedy Performing Arts Center in Washington D.C. and he also received a gold medallion from former President Bill Clinton while shaking his hand.
California Institute of the Arts became his next adventure. He studied dance/choreography and classical voice. In his attendance there he was given the opportunity to perform in Connecticut, New York, Los Angeles, Denver, Florida, North Carolina plus many more beautiful places. Mr. Hightower has choreographed on and/or worked with such companies as New York Baroque, Calarts Dance Ensemble, Dallas Black Dance Theater, Beckles Dance Company, Contemporary Ballet Dallas and Images Contemporary Dance Company. His television credits include American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance and various commercials. Mr. Lonnie’s choreographic, dancing performing abilities his
techniques as a teacher and vocalist have been recognized all over the U.S. and abroad through television, newspaper and internet. He is continuing through the arts because of his love, dedication, and respect for the arts as a professional performance artist, and the joy he feels when his students love performing and understand the joy the stage can bring.
